Rush Dominate at Home Move to 3-0 on the Season

by Brandon Tate

6/15/21 - The Oregon High Desert Storm blew in to the Tri-Cities on a high note after beating the previously never beaten Idaho Horseman the week prior but left scratching their heads as they struggled against a dominant Rush defense. The Rush offense lead by veteran QB Les Obie continued to find the end zone and Special Teams was able to capitalize with two touchdowns.

After a fumble on the opening play by the offense the Defense came out onto the field and established exactly how the rest of the game was going to go. Stopping the Storm on three consecutive plays forcing them into a field goal attempt that was blocked by #6 AJ Smiley and returned for a touchdown my #23 Elix Wade.

The Rush Offense didn't miss a beat after opening the game with a fumble and proceeded to score at will for the rest of the game. Quarterback Les Obie finished the game 19-28 for 178 yards and 4 touchdowns. Completing two touchdowns to Receiver/Running Back #1 Antionne Wafer who finished the game with 10 Receptions for 79 Yards, 2 touchdowns and 10 yards rushing and two touchdowns to #10 Dashun Salgado Jr who finished the game with 60 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns. #24 Keithon Flemming continued to hold down the running game finishing with two rushing touchdowns.

The Rush defense hit the Storm QB early and often including two sacks by #0 Zeus Jackson that lead to 2 fumbles that were recovered by the Rush defense. #19 Noke Tago also finished the game with 2 sacks and #6 Aj Smiley had several solo tackles and 1 interception with the other interception on the night going to #3 Tyler Merkel. #27 Marcellus Pippins kept his half of the field locked down all night and added a defensive touchdown on special teams.

Offensive Lineman #69 Josh Davis suffered a minor injury during the game and was replaced by #40 Dallon Grinder who finished strong in Davis's absence. Coach Brandon Tate doesn't expect Davis to miss much time but did say the team would have other options available outside of Defensive End Dallon Grinder for their game next week against Yakima.

The Rush now 3-0 will face their rival the Yakima Canines in what is a rematch of week 4 when the Rush beat the Canines 72-24 at the Sundome.
